Frequently asked
questions

Yes, we can help people with a less-than-perfect credit history. You may find that you're not offered the great rates that someone with excellent credit history might get, but we may still be able to help you find a finance option to suit your circumstances.

If you have a default recorded against you, it may help your chances of approval, when applying for new credit, by adding a ‘notice of correction’, to your credit file. This is a statement of up to 200 words in which you can offer an explanation as to why this happened. Lenders will review this in determining whether to accept your credit application.

With a default recorded we also recommend making contact with the lender in question and make the effort to pay them off, no matter how small a contribution you can make per month. By reducing or satisfying your default balances you will be viewed more favourably by a potential lender.

If your bankruptcy has ended and you’ve been discharged, you can apply for finance again. Your bankruptcy usually lasts one year, and when it’s finished you’ll receive a letter which states that you are now ‘a discharged bankrupt’.

It is usually best to wait at least 12 months in order to try and rebuild your credit score before you start to apply for credit again, as it may be seen as negative if you start trying to get credit straight away. It’s also worth bearing in mind that if you’ve been made bankrupt, your credit score will have been severely damaged. This usually means you’ll be excluded from the best rates available, so your finance will cost more in the long run.

If you are still bankrupt, unfortunately we won’t be able to help you. Taking further credit at the level you’d need to buy a car, when you’re bankrupt, is legally not allowed.

Car finance is a way for you to buy a new or used car by spreading the cost over a period of months. So, instead of having to pay everything upfront, you can split the cost into manageable amounts that are paid in regular monthly instalments.

Zuto is credit broker, not a lender. Zuto Limited is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, registration number 452589. All finance is subject to status and income.

Applicants must be 18 or over, terms and conditions apply, guarantees and indemnities may be required. Certain exclusions for NI residents. Zuto won't charge you anything for our service but we will receive a commission from the lender which varies based on the product, amount borrowed or your credit score. This doesn't affect the amount you pay. Written quotation on request.

Our rates start from 10.9% APR. The rate you are offered will depend on your individual circumstances. Representative Example: Borrowing £7,950 over 60 Months with a representative APR of 23.9% the amount payable would be £218 a month, with a total cost of credit of £5,122 and a total amount payable of £13,072.
